Australian Performance Car Championship Round 3 Eastern Creek July 8th and 9th.
Floyd, Holt, Lynton All win at Easten Creek.

DRIVERS in three different cars shared the wins in round three of the STS Turbo Performance Car Championship (GTP), but Garry Holt retained his lead in the title chase after a hectic battle at Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Raceway today.
Holt won the second of three 12-lap heats in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8, but his recent winning streak ended there as Peter Floyd took race one in a Holden HSV GTS and Beric Lynton won race three in a BMW M3.
However, Holt finished second when he didn’t win and still was able to earn enough points for a comfortable outright round victory over Lynton.
Teenager Drew Russell took out the round and took over the lead in the Ferntree Gully Holden Privateers Cup with a perfect score of pole position and three race wins.
“We’ve won four out of five races up to this round and if ever that was going to end it was going to be at Eastern Creek, where the bigger-engined cars are able to stretch their legs,” Holt said.
“At times today I just didn’t have an answer for their horsepower, but nevertheless we’re leading the championship and that’s our major goal.”
Holt started race one from pole, with defending champion Floyd beside on the front row.
The Mitsubishi driver held off Floyd, Steve Cramp (HSV), Barry Morcom (Mitsubishi) and Lynton, but when Floyd powered the V8 Holden easily into the lead down the straight on lap nine it appeared he had just been biding his time.
Floyd broke the lap record during the move and went on to win by 1.3 seconds from Holt, Cramp, Morcom and Lynton.
Dean Lillie ran behind the main group after returning to pit lane on the warm-up lap to replace an engine belt in his HSV, while Tony Alford retired his HSV with differential failure.
Holt fired the all-wheel drive Mitsubishi off the outside of the front row in race two so quickly his standing lap time was 2.5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field and he held that gap unchallenged to the flag.
All the action was in the battle for the minor places, with Morcom initially leading Cramp, Floyd, Linton and Lillie until he slipped wide on lap five.
Floyd clearly was struggling with the 75 kilograms of lead “success” ballast added to his car after race one and fell to Linton on lap six.
Three laps later at the tight left-hand turn two, Lillie saw a gap and attempted a lunge from fifth to second. The move launched Lillie into the air off the side of Cramp’s Holden and when the dust cleared, both Floyd and Morcom had gone off also.
Lillie retired and Lynton profited by taking second place, ahead of Morcom, and fastest lap of the race.
Cramp’s strong form came to a crashing end in race three, literally, when a passing move on Morcom ended in a rollover at turn five.
“That’s it – I can’t afford to repair the car, so unless a miracle happens I’m out of the series,” Cramp said.
Holt had led from the start until Cramp’s car was retrieved and the safety car withdrew on lap five. On the re-start, Lynton drove around the outside on turn one and towards his first win of the season.
Holt, Graham Alexander (Mitsubishi) and Lillie stayed in formation to the end, but Floyd retired after two engine drive belts let go.
Lynton said: “That’s a great feeling, especially since we started the weekend with an engine misfire. It’s the first time I’ve been able to beat Garry’s Mitsubishi in a straight line.”
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Drew Russell from Newcastle wrapped up a perfect weekend in the Privateers Cup, taking pole position, three race wins and the series lead in a Honda S2000 entered as a last-minute substitute for his regular Mazda RX-7.
The STS Turbo Australian Performance Car Championship, continuing a 10-year tradition of GTP racing, features a wide range of cars that can be purchased in Australian showrooms.
Modifications are limited to the removal of interior trim, fitment of safety equipment and minor mechanical changes to suspension, brakes, exhausts and engine management systems.
A parity adjustment system ensures similar performance across the field, resulting in close and exciting racing between cars that have strong relevance to everyday motorists. Parity is complemented by a success-penalty system that adds temporary ballast to the first three cars in class in each race.

Australian Performance Car Championship Round 2 Wakefield Park May 26th and 27th.
Garry Holt Dominates Wakefield Park, Performance Whitewash.

GARRY Holt has this weekend completely dominated the second round of the 2006 STS Turbo Australian Performance Car Championship driving his trusty Century 21 Real Estate Racing Mitsubishi Lancer.
Sydneysider Holt scored pole position, a new lap record and two race wins in his Century 21 Real Estate - supported car at Wakefield Park Raceway this weekend, his first ever overall victory at the Goulburn track despite the driver having designed the 2.2km layout.
Two, 24-lap events made up this weekend’s second championship round – Holt entering the weekend searching for wins following a disappointing disqualification in the third race of the series’ opening round at Oran Park three weeks ago.
That quest started in the best possible fashion on Friday, Holt comfortably quickest in both 30-minute Practice sessions – the first by .5 and the second session by over a full second, in what was already boding to be a dominating display.
Last year’s championship runner-up then also dominated qualifying, taking pole position by four-tenths of a second over the similar Mitsubishi Lancer of Barry Morcom.
Such was the pace of the Century 21 Real Estate Racing Lancer that Holt lead the opening lap of the first 24-lap race by over two seconds, eventually going on to take a comfortable victory over Morcom and Beric Lynton’s BMW.
The second event, held earlier today, saw a similar amount of domination by the Century 21 team - Holt taking a two-second victory to cap off a crushing Wakefield Park Performance this weekend.
The Sydneysider now takes a 16-point lead into the third championship round at Eastern Creek in early July.
“It has been the perfect weekend,” Holt said this afternoon.
“The Century 21 Real Estate Car has been perfect all weekend and it has been a faultless weekend.
“It’s particularly satisfying to be able to win here, as well,” he added.
“In the past we have been able to win races, set lap records and score pole positions but we’ve never been able to get the round win so it’s great to have got it today.
“It’s nice to have got a solid lead in the championship here because the next couple of rounds could be tough for us,” he said.
Eastern Creek Raceway’s third championship round is expected to tip the balance back in the favor of the V8 contingent in the field, Oran Park and Wakefield suiting the nimble Four-Wheel-Drive layout of Holt’s Lancer Evolution.
Century 21 Real Estate Racing returns to action in the STS Turbo Australian Performance Car Championship at Sydney’s Eastern Creek on July 8 – 9.
Century 21 Real Estate Racing is supported by Century 21 Real Estate, 2UE, Eastern Creek Karting Raceway, Croyden Racing Developments and Sarina Smash Repairs.

Australian Performance Car Championship Round 1 Oran Park May 6th and 7th
Although Garry Holt was first accross the line in all three races, it was new teammate Barry Morcom who won one of the 2006 STS Turbo Australian Performance Car Championship at Oran Park on May 6-7.
It was the first ever round win for Morcom, but it came after Holt's Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII was excluded from the last race - it was to be .9mm under ride-height.
The 27 car entry was down to just 10 by the start of the race one. Holt was the fastest qualifier from fellow EVO Steerer Morcom.
Points Round 1 of 7: 1 Morcom 68, 2 Holt 63, 3 Lillee 49.
RYAN FLYIN'
David Ryan regained the series lead when he won round three of the Shannons Australian Production Car Championship at Oran Park May 6-7.
Ryan was the fastest qualifier, but the Falcon Turbo driver bogged down at the start allowing Drew Russell's Honda S2000 to momentarily take the frontrunning. The best was back for the last race, leading for only a lap though, as Beechey took over. The Honda Integra Held the Front Running right up to lap 10 where Ryan took over to win.
Points Round 3 of 7: 1 Ryan 137, 2 Houlder 128, 3 Russell 110.
